I fell in love with English way back in the third grade, right around page 13 of E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, and I’ve been devouring books ever since. Somewhere along the line, after stuffing my head with so many words, I started spewing them out, too. And now here I am, hoping that my own spewings will become another’s sustenance. ¡Buen provecho!
If you’re wondering about my heritage, I was born in Brooklyn to Colombian immigrants and raised in the middle of Texas. I’m a bit of a cultural mutt, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you’re wondering about my name, it doesn’t rhyme with fuzz or booze. It is pronounced “loose,” like a loose screw. Also, “Pinilla” doesn’t rhyme with vanilla. It’s more like pee-NEE-ya.
If you’re wondering about the boring stuff, here it is: I received my BA in Literary Studies and my MA in Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas and am now pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. I’ve had a few stories and articles published here and there. The big stuff is yet to come.
Si se está preguntando si hablo español, la respuesta es sí. Lo respeto como mi primer idioma y el de mis raíces, pero para poder jugar con esta materia que tanto me encanta, prefiero hacerlo en inglés. Es el idioma de mi hígado.
If you’re wondering about anything else, please ask. If I don’t know, I’ll make something up. :o)
